20160422 – New Marvel Teaser Heralds a Hero’s Long-Awaited Return | Comic Book Resources

New Marvel Teaser Heralds a Hero’s Long-Awaited Return – Spinning out of « Avengers: Standoff, » a hero will make a long-awaited return to Marvel Comics, and it appears they’ll be connected to the Nova Corps.

With the title « A Long Awaited Return… », the teaser features a golden cross on a black background; the cross echoes the (generally red) symbol on the Nova Corps’ helmet, much like the one Sam Alexander wears in « All-New, All-Different Avengers. »

The teaser also references « Avengers: Standoff, » which concludes in next Wednesday’s « Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega » #1, so it seems we’ll soon learn who will be making a big return.

Several Nova Corps members are currently unaccounted for, including fan-favorite Richard Rider. Additionally, the solicitation text for Mark Waid and Mahmud Asrar’s « All-New, All-Different Avengers » #10 teases « The Search for Nova’s father, » which implies the Avengers will get word that Jesse Alexander is alive.

Of course, the teaser could have nothing to do with the Nova Corps; the image could just as well tease the return of Quasar, the original Captain Marvel, Darkhawk or someone else entirely.

« Avengers: Standoff » draws to a close in « Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega » #1, which goes on sale April 27.

It’s been about 14 months since Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures officially announced they’d be teaming-up for Spider-Man‘s film future. Bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they announced, he’d first appear in a Marvel Studios film, which we now know is Captain America: Civil War, but then go on to a Sony Pictures-produced solo movie.

Tuesday night at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Sony Pictures hosted their annual panel, looking at their future releases, and officially announced that Spider-Man‘s new movie will be titles Spider-Man: Homecoming. The title was rumored thanks to a domain name registration earlier this month, but was confirmed for the first time at the panel.

The title helps reflect the younger take on Spidey that they’re going for this time around, keeping him in High School and letting him take on the problems of a teenager, as well as those of a superhero. That take has been indicated almost as long as the deal was done, and was reflected in the youngest actor yet being cast for the big screen role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Tom Holland. Holland flew to Las Vegas for the title reveal, just a few hours after being on the red carpet for Captain America: Civil War.

Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman said the title is « both a high school reference, and a homecoming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe » after the reveal.

As for Marvel Studios, they’re also on production for Homecoming, president Kevin Feige recently explained in detail that it’s a Sony Picture, with Marvel creative assistance, something he intuited during the initial announcement of the landmark character-sharing deal.
