20170215 – Arriving Late to Legion? Here’s What to Look For — CBR.com

If ever there was a series that benefited from repeat viewings it’s “Legion,” FX’s new sci-fi thriller very loosely based on Marvel’s X-Men universe. Developed by Noah Hawley (“Fargo”), the series borrows from the comics David Haller, the mentally ill son of Charles Xavier created by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, and places him in…

Quelle proportion (…)

20170211 – Comics News : Marvel’s SECRET EMPIRE Event Unveiled

Is that a Chitauri cruiser from the AVENGERS movie?

After several teaser images, the plan for Marvel Comics’ next event, Secret Empire, has been unveiled in an article with its Disney sister company, ABC. The Hydra sleeper agent Captain America pushes his secret machinations public in what Marvel Senior VP Tom Brevoort described as « a Watergate moment » which mobilizes Marvel’s other heroes to stop him.

« Steve has been kind of lining his dominoes up around the Marvel Universe to be able to make his move and bring about a Hydra revolution, a takeover, » Brevoort said. « At the point of Secret Empire, they are ready to go. That’s the moment we hit as we go in. »

Nick Spencer, who crafted Steve Rogers’ « Superior Soldier »-style turn last year, will write Secret Empire, with a rotating team of artists to include Steve McNiven, Andrea Sorrentino, Leinil Yu, and Daniel Acuna. Mark Brooks is lined up to illustrate the series’ primary covers.

Since the revelation of Steve Rogers’ sleeper agent status was revealed in May 2016’s Captain America: Steve Rogers, the classic Marvel hero has been shown to be slowly orchestrating a series of events to equip himself and Hydra for a takeover of the world. Rogers has been shown to have orchestrated many of the events of Civil War II, including the murder of Bruce Banner – for which he later took possession of the original Hulk’s zombified body.

According to Brevoort, Secret Empire is where Hydra’s private plans go public.

« We are done with the covert portion, the buildup portion of the program, Secret Empire if the pyrotechnics, the big Michael Bay blockbuster, huge colossal struggles and battles across the Marvel Universe, with all of our key characters and players taking on a big role, » said Brevoort.

Secret Empire comes at a time where all of the founding Avengers save semi-retired Janet Van Dyne (a.k.a. the original Wasp) are either dead, incapacitated, or off the board. With the advent of « Divided We Stand » last year, a newer crop of heroes – many taking the names of older heroes – have become front-and-center in the Marvel U.

Alonso said that Secret Empire will feature all of Marvel’s major teams and families, including the Avengers, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool, the Champions, and the Defenders.

The event kicks off with Secret Empire #0 in April, which Brevoort frames as « the worst day of the Marvel Universe. »

« Where not one, not two, but three separate events break out all at once. Cap, as head of S.H.I.E.L.D., is able to mobilize forces to all three of those situations. And those three situations represent Hydra’s first move. It comes off the blocks explosively right from the get-go. »

Secret Empire is expected to run for nine issues, culminating in an August finale.

20170211 – Star Wars: Fan Petition for Old Republic Netflix Series Reaches Over 140k Signatures

With the success of the Marvel-Netflix partnership, and now quantifiable proof to the tune of over […]

the tune of over a billion dollars that Star Wars can exist and thrive outside of the core Skywalker Saga thanks to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, fans of the galaxy far, far away are hoping beyond anything else for one thing: A Star Wars live-action TV series. Whenever the subject comes up, fans immediately look to Netflix as a possibility; Lucasfilm and Marvel are sister companies under Disney, after all, and Netflix has shown incredible care in co-producing series like DaredevilJessica Jones, and Luke Cage.

As far as subject matter, while some fans would like to see the TV series that George Lucas originally conceived of, exploring the underworld of the Star Wars galaxy during the « dark times » era of the height of the Empire, many have brought up the idea of exploring the times of the Old Republic. Introduced to fans in Knights of the Old Republic, the era thousands of years in Star Wars past quickly became a favorite. It was the height of both the Jedi and Sith’s powers, with hundreds if not thousands of each running around. The galactic conflicts were not handled as often by fleets and superweapons as they were by feats of Force wielders.

One fan has taken matters into her own hands, as Jasmine St-Philippe started a petition to demonstrate the desire for a Netflix-Lucasfilm collaboration on an Old Republic series. Unsurprisingly to Star Wars fans, it’s had quite the response, currently sitting at over 140,000 of the required 150,000 signatures.

« The Old Republic era is a pivotal point in the Star Wars timeline because that’s where everything changed, from the Jedi Civil War and the fall of Revan, the First Jedi Purge, and an omnipresent darkness that not only watched the chaos from afar but also kick-started the downfall, » she writes. « Our fanbase would love to see this on Netflix, and I feel that you would enjoy creating and adapting these stories as much as we would enjoy watching them. »

While petitions like these don’t directly lead to a massive multi-million (or even billion) dollar decision like developing and creating an entire TV series, they do put, into writing, a demonstrated following, a true passion from fans who would be putting their support toward something like this.

Recently, Star Wars Rebels gave a sizable nod to Old Republic fans, alluding to the Jedi-Mandalorian war (in the game called simply the Mandalorian Wars) that was a major part of the story of that era. So at the very least, Lucasfilm employees definitely still think about – and because they’re fans, too – love the story of the era from even longer, longer ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Go sign the petition, get it to 150,000 signatures, and maybe we’ll at least be one step closer to seeing this fan-favorite era come to life.

20170211 – Comics News : ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Set To Begin Shooting In July As Michael Douglas Confirms His Return As Hank Pym

The legendary Michael Douglas has taken to social media to announce that production on Marvel’s Ant-Man sequel is scheduled to commence some time in July, while also teasing his Hank Pym reprisal…

Michael Douglas has now officially confirmed that he’s set to reprise the role of Hank Pym in Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp. Though we all pretty much assumed he’d be back anyway, it was far from a forgone conclusion as Douglas actually only signed on for one movie originally.

As Scott Lang’s mentor, Pym was one of the many highlights of the first movie, so this is terrific news. The Academy Award-winning actor will rejoin Paul Rudd as the diminutive superhero of the title, and Evangeline Lilly, who will have an expanded role as Hope Van Dyne.

Douglas also revealed that Peyton Reed is scheduled to begin filming the sequel this July.
