». Cliquez ici pour découvrir d’autres images de l’album paru en 1978.

20160525 – Comics News :DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1 – Explaining the Two WALLY WESTs | Newsarama.com

It’s getting harder to miss one of the major spoilers of DC’s latest universe-changing event. In case you didn’t, we answer some questions you might have.

Updated May 24, 2016: Since publication of this story DC Comics has revealed a third image of Wally West from DC Universe: Rebirth #1 without a spoiler warning, this time on its Facebook page.

Original Story: Spoilers ahead for DC Universe: Rebirth #1.

Among all the excitement about the return of post-CrisisWally West in DC Universe: Rebirth #1, there’s one element of his return that’s an even bigger surprise — there will apparently now be two Wally West speedsters in the DCU.

As seen in the DC Universe: Rebirth #1 pages that leaked Friday afternoon and subsequent official preview pagesreleased to the comic book press and USA Today, DC now has two Wallys in their Rebirth’ed universe. And both wear a Kid Flash costume, though the original Wally is seen in a brand new costume at the end of the special.

According to the special due Wednesday, the two Wallys are established as cousins who had never met, named after the same great-grandfather, Wallace West. The older, original Wally is Rudy West’s son. The newer, younger Wally is Rudy’s brother Daniel West’s son. Both share an aunt (Rudy and Daniel’s sister), Iris West.

“I was as close to Iris as I was far from Daniel,” explains the original Wally in narration.

Diving deeper, the just-returned-from-the-past Wally is older (but younger than his last pre-Flashpoint appearance) white, red-headed speedster. The character was introduced in 1959 and started as a Kid Flash, one of the members of the Teen Titans, but then graduated to taking over the Flash mantle as an adult in the 1980’s – all continuity that is now, apparently, reestablished. He disappeared from continuity when DC rebooted their universe in 2011, but now he’s back. And Newsarama has learned that he’ll be co-starring with other adult, former Teen Titans in the new Titans series by writer Dan Abnett.

But there’s also the younger, more-recently-introduced, « New 52 » version of Wally West, a black teenager. Flash Rebirthwriter Josh Williamson told Newsarama that the « kid » version of Wally West will evolve into the new Kid Flash within the pages of the Flash title (as confirmed by DC Universe: Rebirth #1), then will be part of the Teen Titans title.

Williamson said that there will be a « twist » with Wally’s evolution, which hints that maybe the older Wally will be part of mentoring the younger one.

While the existence of two Wally West’s now has a simple explanation, it isn’t the only character ‘duplication’ that is emerging as DC works to undo some of the problems that arose after the company’s « New 52 » reboot in 2011, which had eliminated many of the company’s best-loved legacy characters. Now, in the Rebirth’ed DCU, it appears that there will be two Lois Lanes, and we’re still not sure how many Clark Kents.

20160519 – Comics News : Geoff Johns Wants DC to Include More ‘Hope & Optimism’ | Comic Book Resources

Geoff Johns Wants DC to Include More ‘Hope & Optimism’ – Though he wouldn’t confirm reports that he is now in charge of DC Films, the DC Entertainment CCO was clear that the brand needs hope and optimism.

« There’s a lot of emotional underpinning of the characters and the stories, » he shared. « It’s not that people take it for granted. They’re just not as aware of it. But when it’s not there, you really feel that emptiness.”

« I think people make a mistake when they say, ‘Superman’s not relatable because he’s so powerful, » he added. « I’m like, ‘Are you kidding me? He’s a farmboy from Kansas who moves to the city and just wants to do the best he can with what he’s got.’ That’s the most relatable character in the world. »

The reported creative shuffle at DC Films comes after the lukewarm reception of « Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, » which may have resulted in the appointing of Ben Affleck as a producer on « Justice League » and the firing of director Seth Grahame-Smith from « The Flash » film. Additionally, some reshoots were done on « Suicide Squad » to, it’s said, « smooth out the third act. »

« Suicide Squad, » the next DC Films movie, hits theaters on August 5.

20160519 – Comics News : JIM LEE Reveals Hidden Meaning Behind DC’s New Logo | Newsarama.com

DC co-publisher Jim Lee says there’s more to the company’s new logo than meets the eye. According to the artist-turned-executive, the new logo – which coincides with the launch of Rebirth – is meant to evoke the insignia of DC’s biggest heroes – Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

« The nooks and angles are meant to evoke the Superman ‘S’, the Wonder Woman ‘WW’ emblem and the Bat logo, » Lee explained on an Instagram post.

The new logo will debut with the DC Universe: Rebirth one-shot that hits shelves May 25.

20160515 – Comis News : SUICIDE SQUAD Star Margot Robbie Stuns In Cover Shoot For Vogue Magazine

One of the most exciting things about David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is getting to finally see Harley Quinn in live-action. Played by The Wolf of Wall Street‘s Margot Robbie, all the signs are pointing to the actress stealing the show. Whether or not she will remains to be seen, but the Aussie actress certainly does so in this cover shoot for Vogue Magazine (via Batman-News). Below is an excerpt from their article in which Robbie explains how and why she ended up tattooing the members of Task Force X.
As a wrap gift after Tarzan, Sophia—her best friend/housemate/business partner—bought her a tattoo gun on eBay, and soon, between scenes while shooting Suicide Squad, says Robbie, “people would come into my trailer: ‘Hey, Margs—can I get a tattoo?’ ‘Sure—sit on down!’ ” She even gave Delevingne something she dubbed “toemojis”—five emoji faces on the bottoms of her toes. “And then we all decided to get Squad tattoos, David Ayer included,” says Robbie. Now she travels with her tattoo kit everywhere she goes.
Starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Viola Davis, and Ben Affleck, Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 5th, 2016.

20160515 – DC Comics Issues Statement On The Passing Of Darwyn Cooke

Earlier this morning, it was sadly announced that multiple Eisner, Harvey and Shuster award-winning artist Darwyn Cooke lost his battle with cancer. He was 53. Because Cooke had such a huge impact with DC Comics, the company has issued a statement on his passing.

Official press release from DC Comics follows:

Darwyn Cooke had a vision of the DC Universe that was uniquely his own, yet embraced by everyone. Once you saw his timeless designs and concepts for Batman, Catwoman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or any other character, you immediately adopted his jubilant interpretation of these heroes as your own and wanted more. His take on the most iconic heroes in the world were breathtakingly direct and elegant, powerful and cool.  His were some of the most beautiful, fun DC superhero images we have ever seen.

« Darwyn Cooke lived life like a character from a Micky Spillane novel, a throwback to a bygone era that was, more than occasionally, reflected in his work, » said DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. « He was both compassionate and combative, approaching everything he did with a tenaciousness and temerity that is now unheard of in a world afraid to offend. The simplistic brilliance of his art and the natural flow of his storytelling not only elevated but enhanced all projects he touched and his passion and love of comics was reflected in every panel of every page. Working with Darwyn was not without its challenges. There were times we’d spend hours arguing over story then go months without talking, but we always found our way back, drawn together by the common bond and friendship comics creates. This is an industry-wide loss that I feel personally, but the sadness is mitigated in the knowing that the beauty and grace of his art will forever stand the test of time and be a monument to all that is great about comics. »

Darwyn was one of our medium’s true innovators. A gifted artist and master storyteller, Darwyn began his career as a magazine art director and graphic designer.  After answering an ad placed by Warner Bros animator Bruce Timm, Darwyn entered the world of animation, where he contributed to such shows as Batman: The Animated Series,Superman: The Animated Series and Men In Black: The Series.  From there, Darwyn made the leap into print comics, where his character design was never more effective, enduring or entrancing. It was the look and honest simplicity of his characters for which Cooke became famous—as first seen in his breakout work Batman: Ego published over 15 years ago today and then followed up by his popular and critically acclaimed work on Catwoman: Selina’s Big Score and The Spirit.  Even after 15 years, Darwyn’s design for Catwoman is still the one used today in both comics and inspired the look for Catwoman on the hit TV show, Gotham.

An Eisner-award winning artist and accomplished writer, Darwyn has been a much-loved and respected member of the comics community.  He lent his signature retro style to all corners of the DC Universe, from Jonah Hex to Before Watchmen to Vertigo Comic’s The Twilight Children and, of course, his master work, DC: The New Frontier.  His bold, direct style, often compared to the works of Joe Kubert, Alex Toth and Jack Kirby, reflected his down to earth, no nonsense personality.  Darwyn Cooke always claimed that he was a lucky man to have such a wonderful family, friends, and such a wonderful life. He lived that life with the same brilliance and fearlessness that so permeated his work.  And for those of us who knew this one-of-a-kind and genuine soul, we were lucky as well.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Cooke’s family and friends.

20160513 – Comics News :Animated BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE Cover & Release Date Revealed | Newsarama.com

Bruce Timm promised some additions, and there’s already more blood on the BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE cover.

Warner Bros. Animation has announced that the animated adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke will be released digitally on July 26, with a home video version on August 2. The R-rated animated film features the return of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in their popular voice-acting roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively. The film’s script was written by Brian Azzarello, and directed by Sam Liu, based of course on the iconic Alan Moore-Brian Bolland story.

Batman: The Killing Joke presents one of the most compelling stories in the annals of Batman’s adventures: the evolution of the Joker from normalcy to criminal insanity. This was a very challenging story to tell because of the intense, often disturbing storyline, but we are extremely pleased with how true to the graphic novel we have been in this original film.” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing. “Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is proud to release Batman: The Killing Joke as an authentic representation of its revered story for both longtime fans and new fans alike.”

Conroy and Hamill are joined by Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon and Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon.

As part of the home video release, a special Blu-ray Deluxe edition will also include a numbered, limited edition gift set including an exclusive Joker figurine.

20160513 – Comics News : SUPERGIRL Moves to The CW For Second Season | Newsarama.com

The Kryptonian orphan finds a second home on the CW.

After several weeks of speculation and uncertainty, Supergirl has been renewed for a second season – but it’s not without changes.

Supergirl will move to CBS’s sister network CW, which is already home to Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash, which recently crossed over with Supergirl.

According to Deadline, Supergirl will also reportedly relocate filming from Los Angeles to Vancouver, a move that is designed to reduce the show’s budgetary requirements, which were cited as one of the main obstacles to its renewal at CBS.

The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow already film in Vancouver, and are overseen – like Supergirl – by Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions. The CW’s iZombieand NBC’s Powerless also film in Vancouver.

Though Deadline doesn’t outright say if Supergirl will also “move” to the shared DC TV Universe of The Flash, Arrow and Legends, given this season’s Flash crossover, the multiple Earths already established in The Flash, and DC’s history with universe-merging Crises, a merge is both possible and probably beneficial.

DC Comics themselves seem to play into this Crisis-style crossover possibility, stating on their website: « Considering how popular Season 1’s Flash crossover episode was, one can imagine more team-ups with The CW’s other heroes may await in her future, but we’ll have to wait until Season 2 debuts next fall to know for certain. »
