20160421 – Jon Favreau: « Superhero Movies are Going to be Around for a Long Time » | Comic Book Resources

Jon Favreau: « Superhero Movies are Going to be Around for a Long Time » – « Iron Man » and « The Jungle Book » director Jon Favreau shares his thoughts on the risks of Marvel’s first film and the longevity of superhero films.

« Iron Man » and « The Jungle Book » director Jon Favreau was recently asked to share his thoughts on Marvel’s superhero franchise at The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Power Lawyers event in Beverly Hills. During the event he commented on the risky success of « Iron Man, » the creativity in « Guardians of the Galaxy, »and his opinions on the future of superhero films.

During the event, as reported by THR, Favreau was asked about Marvel’s first superhero film, « Iron Man. » According to Favreau, if « Iron Man » had not have been the box office success that it was, Marvel would have had to sell the cinematic rights to that character. « There was a lot of pressure because if that first film had failed, the IP was collateral. If we didn’t make money, they could have lost the rights to all their characters. »

Losing the rights to all of the MCU characters was certainly a huge risk for Marvel to take at the time. « Iron Man’s » $585 million global box office secured the future of the studio and the entire franchise of characters that Marvel is producing today.

Favreau was also asked about the future of superhero films — a question many directors have been asked lately — including Steven Spielberg, who said last year that « There will be a time when superhero films will go the way of the Western. » Favreau had a very different response, referencing « Guardians of the Galaxy’s » creativity and independent film-like style, « If you stamp that as a ‘superhero’ movie, then I think superhero movies are going to be around for a long time. »

At this point Favreau is definitely on the right track, considering studios like Marvel, Warner Bros., and Twentieth Century Fox have superhero movies lined up for the next decade. The genre is also experiencing a shift in tone, considering the vast differences between « Deadpool, » « Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, » and even « Captain America: Civil War, » which could ensure that the genre stays fresher longer than expected.

Favreau also has no plans of getting out of the superhero business anytime soon, especially since he recently signed onto to co-produce Marvel’s next big « Avengers » films « Avengers Infinity War. »

The episode opens on Barry thinking about the night his mother was killed, and talking about how the Wests are responsible for the good things that happened in his life.

This is all to contrast what happened to Earth-2 Solomon, whose father was Jay Garrick — an abusive jerk who gifted Hunter his helmet from the war before killing her and sending Hunter to an orphanage when no relatives could take him in.

The orphanage is a cold, uptight place, and Hunter arrives with the helmet his only possession.

In the present day on Earth-1, Barry is using a tachyon enhancer to try to make his way home. He vanishes into a Breach and immediately reappears, traveling four times as fast as he’s ever been before. He asks Wells to work on decreasing the size of the tachyon enhancer. He’s doing that, but Wells still doesn’t want Barry to open a breach and put the people they love in danger.

Barry says they can’t turn their backs on the other Earth, but Wells won’t help him find a way to Earth-2.

Iris, who was on hand to see the speed test, leaves to go on a date with Scott, her editor.

That night, Joe and Barry are sharing beer and pizza, talking about the fact that Joe more or less agrees with Wells on this point. Wally joins them, bringing his laundry home to wash. Joe offers to help him with his room and board bills, which are more than he had expected, but Wally declines. Joe makes a comment about Wally’s doppelgänger, which inspires Barry.

At S.T.A.R., Barry asks Wells for more information about Reverb. He wants to hone Cisco’s powers so that he can open breaches between worlds.

David Wenham has joined the cast of Marvel’s Iron Fist as Harold Meachum, Marvel Television announced on Monday.

Meachum is a ruthless corporate leader who was once the partner of Danny Rand’s father. In the Marvel Comics universe, Meachum’s betrayal of the Rands is partly responsible for Danny coming to live and train in the mystic city of K’un-L’un. Meachum’s role in Danny’s life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be revealed over the course of Iron Fist’s first season.

As with previous casting, this announcement was accompanied by a teaser image released on Marvel.com. The image shows a New York Bulletin newspaper cover reporting that Meachum is ill.

Wenham is joining a cast that already includes Finn Jones as Danny Rand and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Wenham is likely best known to sci-fi and fantasy fans for his roles in The Lord of the Rings and 300, and also co-starred in the BBC mystery drama Top of the Lake. He’ll next appear in the drama Lion, opposite Nicole Kidman, and in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

In Marvel’s Iron Fist, Danny Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Iron Fist is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2017.

20160411 – Final X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Character Posters Feature ‘Archangel’ And The Titular Villain

We were told that the final two mutants would be unveiled today via the official X-Men: Apocalypse app, and now one has been revealed to be Ben Hardy’s Archangel. Who do you think the last one will be?

The official X-Men Movies app has unveiled one of the two final X-Men: Apocalypsecharacter posters (you can see the rest HERE), and as expected, it’s En Sabah Nur’sAngel of Death (Ben Hardy).

Though his appearance does pay homage to some aspects of Archangel’s comic counterpart, fans were disappointed that they didn’t go full-on bald, blue killing machine. I guess 3 blue mutants in one movie was enough!

We’ll update as soon as the last poster hits, though it can really only be one of two characters at this point: Jubilee, or Apocalypse himself.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
